Beth Ackelson

Voice

Beth Ackelson has recently retired from teaching Music and Drama at Karns City High School for 31 years. During her time at Karns City, she directed 33 full-scale musicals, 67  Variety Shows, 21 Broadway Junior Theater Workshops and over 80 chorus concerts. A proud member of PMEA (Pennsylvania Music Education Association), she has had many students selected to perform at the Honors, Districts, Regionals and States Chorus Festivals. Throughout her tenure at Karns City High School, she has taught Senior High Chorus, Junior High Chorus, Theater Arts and General Music. For the past 10 years, she has held the position of the Fine Arts Department Head at KCHS. 


Beth has dual degrees in Voice Performance and Music Education, a Master’s Equivalency and she is a proud member of the Actor’s Equity Association. A performer at heart, Beth sang her first solo at church when she was five years old and was in her first musical at the age of seven. Getting her start in theater at Knoch High School, she branched out into community theater where she performed with the Butler Musical Theater Guild, Butler Little Theater, Comtra Theater and The Red Barn Theater. After college, Beth worked professionally for the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, Pittsburgh Musical Theater and the West Virginia Public Theater. Some of her favorite roles include Mrs. Potts - Beauty and the Beast; Glinda & the Wicked Witch - The Wizard of Oz; Grace - Annie; Nancy - Oliver; Narrator – Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat; Marian - The Music Man; Eliza - My Fair Lady; Witch - Into The Woods; Aldonza - Man of La Mancha and Paulette - Legally Blonde


She has performed the National Anthem for the Pittsburgh Pirates, recorded three Gospel and Inspirational records in Nashville, TN, and toured Europe and the Western United States with the Continental Singers. Along with her other accomplishments, she is a pageant veteran. Beth has held many local, state and national titles. 


Beth has a passion for teaching Musical Theater, but also has experience teaching many styles of music ranging from Classical to Pop. She also enjoys training performances for pageants and talent competitions. 


Beth resides in Butler, PA with her husband, Mike Ackelson, and has three beautiful children: Lyric, Brendan and Trevor. In her free time, she loves to travel to San Diego, CA to spend time with her gorgeous granddaughter, Reverie!
